5 Reasons To Get A Dog Treadmill

August 11, 2011 § 1 Comment

Here at Fido Gets Fit, we really believe in the products we’re selling and have little doubt that they can help enrich the lives of you and your pets.  Here are five good reasons dog treadmills might be right for you.

Tire out high-energy dogs

Does your dog always seem to have more energy than you?  Dogs vary greatly in their exercise requirements, and often would benefit from a longer periods of sustained exercise.  Even if you are a responsible owner who takes your pup around the block twice a day (which we highly recommend) or more, it might not be enough for Fido!  With a dog treadmill you could let them blow off some additional steam while you’re making breakfast or getting the kids ready for school.

Help Dogs with Mental Problems

Unfortunately, some of our pets can have imperfect behaviors due to traumatic events, lack of socialization, or a lack of training.  A dog tired from extra time on the treadmill is less likely to suffer from separation anxiety and tear up the house while you’re at work.

There are also some dogs that never get walked because they have aggressive tendencies toward neighborhood animals or people.  While we would certainly recommend working with a professional trainer to rehabilitate your pet, exercise on a treadmill would be a great alternative or supplement as you work your pup back into shape, both mentally and physically.

Exercise Your Dog in Bad Weather

While many pet owners enjoy a romp in the rain with their dogs, there’s no question that dogs are walked much less frequently in inclement weather than when the sun is shining.  Of course, there are times when even the most adventurous pet owner should stay inside for the safety of themselves and their animal(s).  Instead of skipping the walk entirely for one or multiple soggy days, use your trusty dog treadmill instead!

Similarly, a cold winter often keeps the whole family, pets included, inside and huddled next to the fireplace.  If nobody dare open the front door, for risk of becoming a human or canine snowman, substitute a treadmill session and keep your dog in shape!

Exercise Your Dog While You Exercise In Your Home Gym

As gym membership fees rise, many have elected to work out at home.  Some people have an exercise mat and a few free weights, while others have large rooms with some of the same high tech equipment you’d find at a gym.  Why not let Spot in on the action?  Add a dog treadmill to your home gym and the whole family can get fit at once.  Perhaps your dogs excitement about jumping on the treadmill will provide additional motivation for you to spend more time working out in your home gym too.  Everybody wins!

Keep Your Show Dog Looking Good And Feeling Good

Show dogs are meticulously groomed so they can look their best in front of the judges, but at the end of the day they’re just like every other dog.  They need exercise, no matter how good their hair looks that day.  If you are a show dog owner who cares about your dogs well-being, but doesn’t want to ruin their coat the morning of a big competition, let your pup exercise on a dog treadmill.
